Resources To Build Self-Love
There are so many incredible resources out there that will deepen your understanding of the topics I cover at Comfortable In My Skin and help you deep dive into this world. I have included some of my favourites modalities in this list that I used on my self-love journey and books that have broadened my understanding of my own body and mind.
The best advice is to find what works for you and when you find it, share it with friends, family and the Comfortable in My Skin community because shame survives in silence.
Comfortable In My Skin: Come and find a thriving community at Comfortable In My Skin. This website and my Instagram page is home to almost a decade of my work and information, including galleries, blogs and recommended providers working in the female health and sexual wellness space. Sign up to my newsletter to hear from me and join the movement!
Inner Child Work: Inner child work is a therapeutic approach focused on connecting with and healing the inner child—the part of a person’s psyche that holds onto experiences, emotions, and memories from childhood. This practice involves acknowledging and nurturing the needs of the inner child, addressing past wounds, and fostering emotional growth and healing. This should only be done with the support of a professional.
Journaling: Journaling is a mindful exercise where you write down your thoughts, feelings, experiences, and reflections. It can help with emotional processing, tracking progress, and creative expression. You can even write a letter to your vulva!
Mirror Work: Mirror work is a self-help practice using the mirror to do positive self-talk and affirmations. The goal is to improve self-esteem, self-acceptance, and self-love by confronting negative self-perceptions. You can do this by looking into a mirror and speaking positive affirmations or by using one of my Comfortable In My Skin mirrors to get up close and personal to your vulva.
Sensual Dance: Sensual dance is about connecting with and expressing one’s sensuality through movement. Unlike traditional forms of dance, which might focus on technical skill or choreography, sensual dance encourages participants to embrace their body’s natural rhythms and movements, often with the intent of enhancing self-expression, confidence, and pleasure.
Shadow Work: Shadow work refers to the psychological process of exploring and integrating the aspects of oneself that are often hidden, repressed, or denied—referred to as the “shadow.” By facing the aspects of ourselves that are often unacknowledged, we can heal and grow. This should only be done with the support of a professional.
Vulva Gazing: A type of mirror work, vulva gazing uses a mirror to look at your vulva, a part of us that is often ignored. It’s an invitation to become curious, empowered, and shame-free. Your vulva will love the attention and it’s a great way to discover your anatomy!
Sister Circles: Sister Circles are gatherings of women and non-binary people. These circles often provide a safe space to connect, share, and empower each other. They can include meditation, discussion, dancing, play, and more. If you’re interested, go here for upcoming events that you can take part in.
Yoni Mapping: Yoni mapping is a pelvic wellness modality for vulva owners that involves exploring and understanding the physical, emotional, and energetic aspects of the yoni. It aims to help individuals connect with their body, release stored trauma or tension, and achieve healing and self-awareness.
Toys: Pleasure is so important to our lives. Sex toys are one way you can connect with your body and find deep pleasure - either solo or with a partner. I have hand-chosen the very best sex toys for the community - available here.
